North Attleborough and Plainville will hold a Veterans Day breakfast and ceremony on Nov. 11, with a keynote address by retired Marine Col. Ryan A. Cherry at Veterans Park.
The Towns of North Attleborough and Plainville announced Oct. 23 that they will host their annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in partnership with their Department of Veterans Services.
The day begins with a breakfast honoring veterans from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 46 South Washington St. in North Attleborough. The breakfast is provided by the Capt. Kyle R. Van De Giesen Memorial Award Fund.
A Veterans Day ceremony follows at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park, 43 South Washington St. If weather is poor, the ceremony will move to the Community School Auditorium.
This year's ceremony carries the theme "250 Years of Defending Our Nation's Freedom," recognizing service members while reflecting on the nation's 250-year history.
The keynote address will be delivered by retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Ryan A. Cherry, a Massachusetts native with a 25-year military career that included deployments to Iraq and the Indo-Pacific, command of a Marine aviation squadron, and senior assignments at the Pentagon, U.S. European Command and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific. Cherry graduated from Springfield College in 2000, was commissioned into the Marine Corps the same year, and served as commanding officer of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469. He retired in 2025 after serving as Assistant Chief of Staff for Aviation, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific, at Camp Smith, Hawaii. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal. He is also author of "Readback: A Marine Aviator's Manual for Navigating Life's Hardest Lessons."
The program will include remarks from state Rep. Adam Scanlon, North Attleborough Town Manager Michael Borg, and representatives of the Plainville Select Board and North Attleborough Town Council. The North Attleborough Police Department Color Guard will present and retire the colors, the North Attleborough High School Marching Band will perform the National Anthem and service songs, and local Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. An invocation, benediction and remarks recognizing veterans and their families will also be included.
The towns encourage residents of all ages to attend.
