Plainville School Committee Appoints Kevin Cormier, Reorganizes Subcommittees After Wave of Departures

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH — June 4, 2026 — Plainville School Committee appoints Kevin Cormier to fill vacancy left by Jennifer Maloney-Plant's resignation. The joint School Committee and Select Board session on June 4 voted unanimously to seat Cormier, who told the boards his priority would be translating district business into language residents can actually understand — "we don't always take advantage of every opportunity to make it understandable." The meeting also served as a formal send-off for Maloney-Plant, who served five years, Michelle Sharp, who served more than eight years including a dual role on the King Philip Regional School Committee, and Justin Alexander, who served more than four years and led the superintendent search that brought Superintendent Christine Parson to Plainville. The committee reorganized all subcommittees, naming Shannon Kerrigan to negotiations, Cormier to budget, and Cormier as the district's MASC delegate representative. The committee voted unanimously to accept coordinated school improvement plans for 2026-2027 showing Jackson School DIBELS benchmark rates rising from 68.5 percent at mid-year toward 75 percent at year-end, while the business office reported the general fund remains in deficit and a $400,000 roof schematic design approved at the May 18 town meeting is moving forward.
