North Attleborough Finance Committee Faces $410,000 Budget Gap for FY23
NORTH ATTLEBORO — March 10, 2022 — North Attleborough Finance Committee confronts a $409,905 preliminary deficit heading into fiscal year 2023. Finance Director Julie presented unaudited revenue projections showing total revenue of approximately $39.45 million against proposed expenditures of $39.86 million, with education absorbing 47 percent of the budget. A 3 percent placeholder was inserted for Plainville Public Schools, which has not yet submitted its budget due to a finance director vacancy and a departing principal. Town Administrator Brian Nobles identified two immediate offsets under discussion — a $100,000 reduction to the King Philip Regional assessment through negotiations with Wrentham, and a $110,000 cut to the Finance Committee reserve fund — leaving roughly $200,000 still to find at the department level. "This is my goal: to do no layoffs anywhere," Nobles told the committee. "We're done with layoffs." The optimal budget, he said, would cost an additional $1.3 million that the town does not have.
