King Philip Regional cuts town assessments by $100,000 in revised FY2023 budget

NORTH ATTLEBORO — April 4, 2022 — King Philip Regional School Committee approved a revised FY2023 budget Monday that trims town assessments by $100,000 while holding the district's overall spending increase at 3.97 percent. The committee voted unanimously to adopt the revised total budget of $38,639,323 including debt service, drawing on anticipated above-floor state aid rather than cutting programs, after the town managers of Wrentham and Plainville — facing assessment increases of 5.03 percent and nearly 6 percent respectively — asked for relief. Superintendent Paul Zinni also reported that King Philip Middle School's combined count of court-involved student cases and long-term medical absences has risen from six last year to 16 so far this school year, with eight of nine medical absences tied specifically to mental health, telling the committee, "that itself is just concerning enough to just share with you." The committee ratified two memoranda of agreement with the King Philip Teachers Association — one covering secretaries, one covering teacher assistants — and adopted the 2022-2023 school calendar with graduation set for Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Stonehill College.
