Bylaw Subcommittee continues work on three zoning measures, defers decisions.

NORTH ATTLEBORO — Bylaw Subcommittee defers decisions on backyard chickens, mixed-use overlay districts, and auto dealerships. Chair Dan Donovan's panel postponed all three measures to February 18 or later following staff presentations and member debate. Measure 2026-042 on backyard chickens divided over an estimated $25,700 annual inspection cost and a proposed $125 annual fee; Town Manager Michael Borg will revise the draft with input from the Board of Health and Animal Control Officer.
Measure 2026-046 establishing Multi-Use Overlay Districts in five zones, including Route 1 and the downtown area, advanced through town planner and planning board review with generally positive member feedback. Measure 2026-047 was revised to allow used auto dealerships by special permit rather than outright prohibition after the Planning Board voted 3-2 against a total ban.
